Martin Lamothe S/S 13 – In the Making!
I can be quite certain, even before seeing any detail about it, that the new collection by Martin Lamothe is going to be amazing because Elena Martin, the designer behind the brand, has already set some precedents in previous occasions and because hers is, no doubt, one of the most strong, conceptualized and consistent proposals of the ones presented during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, which new edition is about to start on Thursday.
If last year she let us join her at the backstage during the days prior to the show for an interview we did for Dazed Digital -you can read it here-, this season she invites us to follow the creative process of her Spring/Summer 13 collection -which will be shown on Sunday in Madrid-, step by step in Martin Lamothe Diary.
“The idea of creating a blog appeared due to the fact that I am one of the few designers in Spain that makes everything in my own atelier -from textile research to pattern-making, cutting, fitting, prints design- so I though showing the process was a must. Showing that there is a difference between trendy prêt-à-porter and this kind of fashion created by a designer, more creative, that can also be prêt-a-porter but is totally alien to trends because it is based on the creativity and sensibility of its creator towards materials” explains Elena, “In the end, this is the best way of showing my clients why they like buying Martin Lamothe, it feeds this excitement towards the collections, they join me in the process, they kind of get attached to the garments, like I do, because they can buy a garment knowing all the story behind it.”

Uno ya tiene la certeza, incluso antes de ver cualquier detalle al respecto, que lo nuevo de Martin Lamothe va a ser genial, porque Elena Martín, la diseñadora detrás de la marca, ya ha sentado unos precedentes en ocasiones anteriores y porque la suya es, sin lugar a dudas, una de las propuestas más sólidas, conceptualizadas y coherentes de lo que se presenta sobre la pasarela de la Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, a punto de comenzar su nueva edición este mismo jueves.
Si el año pasado nos dejó acompañarla durante los preparativos de última hora para una entrevista que hicimos para Dazed Digital -y que puedes leer aquí-, esta temporada nos invita a seguir el proceso de creación de su colección Primavera/Verano 13 -que se presentará este domingo en Madrid- paso a paso en Martin Lamothe Diary.
“La idea del blog surge porque al ser de los pocos diseñadores en España que hace todo en su atelier -desde investigación textil, patrón, corte, montaje y diseño de estampados- creí que mostrar el proceso real era una necesidad. Enseñar que hay una gran diferencia entre pronto moda y tendencia y la moda de autor, la creativa, que también puede ser prêt-à-porter, pero que es ajena a tendencias o directrices y se basa en la creatividad y la sensibilidad hacia las materias del diseñador” nos ha contado la propia Elena, “Al final es la mejor forma de enseñar a mis clientes porqué les gusta comprar Martin Lamothe, les crea ilusión hacia la colección, me acompañan en el proceso, se encariñan con las prendas igual que hago yo y tienen el privilegio de poder comprarse una prenda sabiendo toda la historia que hay detras de ésta.”
