Paris FW: Shopping in Merci
In fact, I had no intention at all of talking about Merci when I got into the shop the other day on my way to Ann Demeulemeester’s show. Mainly because, sometimes, I have the feeling everybody knows this kind of stuff and I don’t like to be repetitive and also because, since it became the latest sensation among the concept stores in Paris like two years ago, any self-respecting trendsetter has been talking about it.
But while I was in the middle of Boulevard Beaumarchais without being able to remember if I had to go up or down the street and after asking a girl that, against all odds, had no idea of what I was talking about (But, how come you don’t know Merci?! You have to go! You are going to love it!) I realized maybe this entry wasn’t a bad idea after all.
Then you also have the fact that, once in the shop, everything is so photographable… Because, really, it is not that you want to buy everything when you get into Merci, the thing is you actually want to live in Merci. Their amazing selection of garments in which you can find designs by Isabel Marant, Carven, Maison Michel or Mulberry, to name a few, are the perfect wardrobe for any fashionista, the decoration department -where you can find from sofas to the most amazing lamps, tables and chairs, dishes and table linen- includes everything you ever wanted for your house but you didn’t even dared to dream about. And then, there it is, the rest of the offer: stationery, jewelry, the nice café with the terrace to rest a while after such exhausting consumerist duty. You see, if you didn’t know it either, you have to go, because you are going to love it, too.

Realmente no tenía ninguna intención de escribir acerca de Merci cuando entré en la tienda el otro día de camino al desfile de Ann Demeulemeester. Principalmente, porque a veces tengo la sensación de que ya todo el mundo conoce ciertas cosas y no me gusta resultar repetitiva y porque no ha dejado de estar en boca de todo cool que se precie desde que se convirtió en la nueva sensación entre las concept store de París, hará ya un par de años.
Pero mientras estaba plantada a mitad de Boulevard Beaumarchais sin recordar si tenía que subir o bajar la calle y tras preguntarle a una chica que, contra todo pronóstico, no tenía ni idea de lo que le estaba hablando, (¡¿pero cómo que no conoces Merci?! ¡Tienes que ir! ¡Te encantará!) me di cuenta de que quizás esta entrada no estaba del todo de más.
Luego está el hecho de que entras en la tienda y ves que todo es tan fotografiable… Porque, en serio, no es que uno quiera comprar mucho cuando entra en Merci, el caso es que uno quiere vivir en Merci. Su genial selección de prendas entre las que se encuentran piezas de Isabel Marant, Carven, Maison Michel o Mulberry, por mencionar algunas, son el guardarropa perfecto de cualquier fashionista, la sección de piezas de decoración -donde se pueden encontrar desde sofás de lo más especiales a lámparas, juegos de mesas y sillas, vajillas y mantelería- incluye todo lo que quisiste para tu casa pero que ni siquiera tu mente había llegado a imaginar. Y luego además, está la sección de artículos de papelería, la de bisutería, el café con terraza donde parar a retomar fuerzas tras tan exhaustiva tarea consumista. En fin, que si tú tampoco la conocías, tienes que ir, porque también te encantará.

i am wondering if you have any of your items in nyc?? i plan on a trip to paris in the months to come. i have a very small house (cottage) in vermont and would love to have some of your inspiration in my cottage…i have never been to merci shop…but i must go there! thank you for
