+ Austra — Beat and the Pulse +
Many of you are already accustomed to my long, descriptive reviews and my complimentary descriptions each time I come across an artist that has surprised me lately, I usually tend to be generous as I believe that following the arduous creative process, the reward is to know that their fans are giving them their time and dedication, and sharing it with those readers who would like to know more from our perspective, but there are times, like now, when the music simply speaks for itself.
Austra, a trio led by Katie Stelmanis, could easily be the opening act for bands such as The Knife or The XX, and their music is rapidly moving up the most listened to electronic music charts in the UK. They bring together a range of creative elements to create an incredible musical formula that showcases Katie’s great musical talent, and when combined with her feisty, rebellious attitude, and her confidence in her ideas and identity, creates a concept destined to lead to great success.
Beat and the Pulse, the song I am sharing with you today, is the best track to demonstrate how they use eroticism and their open homosexuality to play with their image through their electronic musical style. Normally when I compare the many bands on the underground scene in Barcelona doing similar things I often get very disappointed. The substantial musical talents of this group is what comes through at the end, when the whole thing is combined and put on stage, and is what elevates Austra to be a group to be recognized.

Muchos de vosotros estaréis ya acostumbrados a mis largas reseñas y a mis halagos descriptivos cada vez que encuentro a un artista que me haya sorprendido últimamente y normalmente intento ser generoso, dado que creo que tras un arduo trabajo de creación, la recompensa que podemos hacer como fans es obsequiarles con parte de nuestro tiempo y dedicación, y compartirlo con los que pueden llegar a leernos para que los conozcan desde nuestra perspectiva, aunque en ocasiones como hoy, solo su música puede hablar por ellas.
Austra, trío liderado por Katie Stelmanis, y que bien podrían ser teloneados por The Knife o The XX, logra subirse a las listas de música electrónica en el Reino Unido. Su grande estela de elementos que, conectados entre sí, enseñan la gran formación musical que posee Katie a parte de su profunda rebeldía que deja claro que su idea de crear un concepto en sí mismo enmarcado en música le está saliendo muy bien.
Beat and the Pulse, la canción que os traigo hoy, es la prueba clara del erotismo que quieren enseñar con su estilo electrónico además de su abierta homosexualidad. Normalmente comparando con muchos grupos en el underground barcelonés que intentan hacer lo mismo salgo muy decepcionado. La formación musical sorprende cuando la pones al final en escena y lo que Austra hace vale la pena ser reconocido.
Su gira europea comienza en septiembre, si tenéis la oportunidad no os la perdáis.
Bueno, llevo todo el rato oyéndola porque me parece fantástica, Andrés, qué gran descubrimiento; pero además, también llevo todo el día intentando ver a quién me recuerda.
Sí que tiene un poco de The Knife y otro poco de The XX, incluso, depende como es un poco Florence + The Machine (por el rollito popero eclesiástico, quizás)… pero ahora ya sé, ¡es muy Zola Jesus! … ¿no?
