+ ‘Auftakt’ by Roman Drits +

After taking part last year in the Lithuanian competition Kaunas Photo Star and ending up being awarded with the Special Mention, Latvian photographer Roman Drits, currently based in Hamburg, is exhibiting now -and till next Tuesday, May 24th- in F Galerija (Aušros g. 6, Kaunas, Lituania), his awarded project Auftakt.

Auftakt means Prelude in English and it represents, according to his own words “the upward stroke made by conductor, a gesture that comes in the moment when music does not begin to sound yet”. And so are his images, black and white postcards in a suspended silence, half way between what is happening and what is about to happen, making beauty out of imperfections and a whole new world to discover out of what is blurry and unfocused.

Tras participar el año pasado en el certamen lituano Kaunas Photo Star y ser galardonado con la Mención Especial, el fotógrafo letón Roman Drits, afincado en Hamburgo actualmente, expone en estos momentos y hasta el próximo martes 24 de Mayo en la F Galerija (Aušros g. 6, Kaunas, Lituania), su proyecto ganador Auftakt.

Auftakt significa Preludio en castellano y es, según sus propias palabras, “el movimiento ascendente realizado por un conductor, un gesto que aparece en el momento en que la música no comienza a sonar todavía”. Y así son sus imágenes, postales en blanco y negro en un silencio suspendido, a medio camino entre lo que está pasando y lo que está por pasar, haciendo de las imperfecciones belleza y de lo desenfocado y borroso todo un nuevo mundo por descubrir.
