+ Twinkle, twinkle, little star +
Imagine you take pictures all the time, everyday: pictures in the streets, pictures of the people, pictures of life. Imagine that, some time later, all that pictures end up in boxes and your job as a nanny lasts till the rest of your life. Exactly as it happened to Vivian Maier, an American photographer that, during the 50’s and the 60’s portrayed daily scenes in the streets of Chicago and New York.
Imagine that, all of a sudden, fifty years later, these boxes reach somebody determined to show your work to the world, because that is exactly what John Maloof does, adding to his achievements three exhibitions around the world (the third one, the name of which has been used as the title of this entry, will open tomorrow in Hilaneh von Kories Gallery in Hamburg), a documentary now in its pre-production stage, named Finding Vivian Maier, and a book that will be released during next autumn.

Imagina que haces fotos sin parar, en todas partes, todos los días: fotos en la calle, fotos de la gente, fotos de la vida. Imagina que, después, todas acaban guardadas en cajas y tú trabajo como niñera se alarga hasta el resto de tus días. Exactamente como Vivian Maier, fotógrafa norteamericana, que durante los años cincuenta y sesenta retrató escenas cotidianas en las calles de Chicago y Nueva York.
Imagina que, de pronto, cincuenta años después, esas cajas llegan a alguien que parece empeñado en mostrar tu trabajo al mundo, porque eso es exactamente lo que hace John Maloof, contando ya entre sus logros con tres exposiciones alrededor del mundo (la tercera, que lleva por nombre el título de esta entrada, se inaugura mañana mismo en la Hilaneh von Kories Gallery de Hamburgo), un documental que lleva por nombre Finding Vivian Maier y que actualmente se encuentra en fase de preproducción y un libro que tiene prevista su salida durante el próximo otoño.
